Some strange names...

Here are some strange names I've come across as I've been working recently. I work in a shop and parents are always shouting after their kids:

Girls:

Shadney
Kyri
Shaniqua (SHAN-EE-KWA
Cadence
Boadicea (BOW-DA-SIA)

Boys:

Sylar (SY-LA)
Diesel

I quite like Cadence. Hate Shaniqua and I'm just WTFing at Shadney because it just sounds so... gross. Boadicea is quite a handful to put on a little girl, but I like its origins. Kyri just reminds me of Kyrii, which is a Neopet from a virtual pet site.

Sylar. Again, it's a weird name for a child OR anyone for that matter, but I like that it came from Heroes, one of my favourite TV shows. And Diesel? Seriously? Okay for a pet, but for a child? No. And what about when the kid grows up?

So, what do you think?

Okay, I have never seen this one before...I looked at the receipt of a customer when they signed a bill: Rise. Female.

My husband and I were discussing names last night and a couple came up...

Nathan
Emmett
Nico - as a nn for Nicholas (unless there's anything else?)
Gabriel
Zachary
Lewis/Louis
Lucas

Then we thought, are we going to give our potential son a girls name? Do any of these names seem feminine to you? The main one that made my husband mention this was Emmett, which is also his favourite of the bunch.

Middle name would be a family name out of: Edward, Charles, John, James, Peter, Marcus and Shaun. Combo ideas welcome.
Do you all think it would be too much to give a kid two middle names? They would both be names to honor deceased family members, and I realize the kid would never really use the second middle name in normal every day life. Superfluous to give two? Or a nice tribute to family members?

The names I am stuck on right now are:
Seth Gregory Thomas for a boy.
(Seth because the boyfriend and I were watching the History Channel one day, and heard the name Seth on some Bible show and looked at each other at the same time and said "Love that!" Gregory is my dad and oldest brother's middle name, and what my dad went by until he was a young adult - he never knew his real name was William until he was 18, I think it was. He now goes by Bill, but was a Greg as a kid. And Thomas after two of my uncles who passed away - one biological uncle and one super-close-family-friend uncle).

And for a girl, Alice Margaret Julia
(I don't think the order really rings right though. Would consider swapping Julia and Margaret, but Alice is my favorite as the first name. Alice for my great-aunt who passed away. And, truth be told, I am also a big fan of Alice in Wonderland. My first baby doll was called Annie Alice, after my two favorite movies as a little kid. Margaret is my first name, but was also my mom's first name. I wouldn't pass it on if it was just mine, but want to pass it on in my mom's memory. And Julia for my decease aunt, who actually went by Judy, which I don't understand, because Julia is SO much prettier, IMO).

If I had twin girls (my dream, lol), I would use Alice Faye (Faye was my g-gmother's maiden name, and I always thought it would make an awesome middle name for a girl) and Julia Margaret.

Other boy names I like are: Joseph and William (but wouldn't use it if I had a son with the current boyfriend, because he has a son named William. His son is much older - older than me in fact - so it wouldn't be like we had two kids living with us with the same name, but still. It would be weird).

There are a TON of girl names I like. An absolute TON. Would consider Ruth as a middle name (middle name of both my paternal and maternal grandmothers, first name of my paternal step-grandmother, and first name of my aunt) and Lillian (first name of my paternal grandmother. Was ALWAYS my top pick for a girl. Until my brother and sis-in-law named their first daughter Lilliana. I'd still consider Lillian for a middle name - especially now because it was also my boyfriend's mother's name. But my sis-in-law is super greedy about her names, and has gotten livid when her sisters/brothers have used names even remotely similar to her girls' names. I shouldn't care, especially because the girls wouldn't grow up close enough for there to be confusion. But I really don't want to hear her mouth, lol).

Just for fun...

Some of my friend's (close friends as well as facebook, haha) names that are more on the unique side, including the origin for some of them...

Amaris (properly pronounced "'am-uh-riss", but she pronounces it "uh-'mar-iss and her spanish-speaking family pronounces it "ah-'ma-ree" with a rolled "r")
Feraaz (pronounced "fuh-'rozz". He was raised Muslim in Trinidad)
Nadeera (pronounced "nuh-deer-uh". Feraaz's sister.)
Trenton (some call him Trent, but for the most part, we say his full name)
Soraya (pronounced "Suh-'ry-uh.")
Kailii (yep, pronounced "Kay-lee")
Kaly (a dude)
Kali (another "kay-lee)
Sanya (pronounced "'sun-yuh". She is muslim)
Ayse (pronounced "'eye-shuh". Turkish)
Naida (pronounced "'nye-duh" although she first introduced herself to me as "nay-duh" and I've been unable to make the transition to the other pronunciation, haha. She is Haitian.)
Chantha (pronounced "'shon-tuh")
Siana (pronounced "sea-'ana")
Litasha
LyTysha (when I met her, she joked about how she had a "black" name, but she's white)
Milena (pronounced "mil-ay-nuh." she's Brazilian.)
Emerson
Amandalea (pronounced with a long "e")
Thalita (pronounced "tuh-'lee-tuh". Brazilian)
Paola (pronounced "Pa-'oh-lah." Also Brazilian.)
Aleksandra
Kadi (pronounced like Katie)
Shae
Naria (pronounced "'nah-ree-uh")
Shree (pronounced as it's written, as one syllable. I think her name is Persian)
Loren (He's a guy)
Reena
Alexine
Tercini (pronounced "ter-'sea-nee")
Erma (she's Greek)
Ketyllen ("'ket-uh-lin")

Friends' new babies or babies on the way:

Judah Blue
Jemma Rain
Kaleb Noah

Finally, my twin niece and nephew who just turned 1:

Noah and Emilee

DISCLAIMER: Just because these are people I know personally doesn't mean I'll be offended if you absolutely hate some of these names...I don't like them all, either ;-p

Cassidy

My friend has a male coworker named Cassidy.  I always thought of this as only a girl's name, but it actually really suited him! Thoughts?

So, I have just started reading this blog called Mar and Peej. The mom's names is Marcella and her daughter is Pella James.

I think Marcella is just a gorgeous name. Althoough, I am slightly partial to Marceline because of Adventure Time. I've never come across Pella before. I guess it's a less trendy version of Ella/Bella. And I know most people aren't fond of James on a girl, but there's something about it that I just really like. I don't think I would use it as a first name, but I would definitely consider it as a middle name. Especially if it was to honor someone.

I met a woman today whose name was Luanne, but she goes by LouLue (spelled like that). Can't say I'm a big fan, it must get misspelled all the time.

Twin little girls I met at the pool: Anabella and Angelina.

Surprisingly, my first thought was not "Angelina Jolie," maybe because they came as a pair and it sounds sweeter.
